This video Links to an external site. was watched in class. It breaks down some of the impressive engineering/physics applications of the Boeing 787. At 20 minutes in, it discusses briefly a material choice made related to our current unit of circuitry - Electric Potential, or voltage! Due to the use of carbon fiber, which can act as an anode, like graphite in batteries, a corresponding metal needed to be used instead of Aluminum.
A shorter video Links to an external site. details the basics of how newer composite planes are designed to still safely handle lightning strikes.
