PLAN: Students in both Spanish 2 and Spanish 3 will learn about Hispanic Heritage Month and reflect on important contributions from Latinx and Hispanic people in the US. AP Spanish students will do work individually online on AP CLASSROOM.
Activity 1: At the start of class, please collect the calendar review worksheet Links to an external site. from all students. Please also have our office manager or Mrs. Clem scan and send these to me so I can work on grading them.
Activity 2: Use the promethean board to project the Hispanic Heritage Month 1 Slideshow Reading presentation Links to an external site.. Go through each slide with the whole class. Have a different student read each slide out loud to the class (or you can do this if you feel comfortable doing so) and then have them work in their table groups to translate/figure out what the slide says. It is FULL of cognates so they will be able to do this with encouragement. They may use the class set of dictionaries also! They should take notes on important facts.
Activity 3: Open the HHM3 Mes de la Herencia Hispana CLOZE Links to an external site. presentation. Use the controls in the lower right hand corner of the video to turn on the closed captioning in Spanish and slow down the speed of the video to 75%-80%. Play the video ONLY TO 1m24s through twice for them to practice their listening skills (interpretive communication). Then, students should work in their table groups again to complete each slide of the close activity.
Activity 4: Have each student choose a Hispanic person that they admire - to clarify, a Spanish-speaking person who was born in a Spanish-speaking country that now lives in the US and has contributed to our society, country, and/or culture. Once they choose a person, have them use the internet to research the person and answer the questions in this Google Form.
