9/11-9/15: Week 2 Agenda

Monday September 11:

  • Objective: To familiarize you with the existing culture and expectations of RAHS so that you can successfully navigate them and add your unique attributes to our school culture.
  • Entry: Attendance
    • What is professionalism?
    • How do you personally feel about fitting into professional dress and behavioral standards?
    • Are there any issues you see with professionalism or professional culture?
  • Activity: Discussing our school and classroom expectations and how we can authentically fit into them.

Tuesday September 12:

  • Objective: To get familiar with the structure and expectations of our classroom community, and continue building that community.
  • Entry & Check-in: What is the best classroom environment you have been a part of? What were a few of the things that made it so good? Have you experienced any bad classroom environments? What are some of the things that made those environments unsuccessful?
  • Activity: Go over course syllabus and wrap our heads around grading procedures.

Wednesday/ Thursday September 13/14:

  • Objective: Define our desired class culture through creating a class charter highlighting our values.  To specifically name the values and characteristics we want to embody in our classroom community and craft an agreement that helps us live up to those.
  • Entry:
    • Where do you feel your greatest sense of belonging? What makes that place/community feel so enriching for you?
    • Are there any places/ communities you are in regularly where you feel out of place or unwelcome? What makes those spaces uncomfortable for you?
  • Activity:
    • Naming core values Links to an external site.
      • What is a personal value? Why is it important to know what our personal values are? 
      • If I asked you to name your five most important personal values in the next 5 minutes, could you do it?
    • Identifying Class Values
    • Creating class charter

Friday September 15:

  • Objective: To start thinking about the aspect of our own personal cultural backgrounds that have the greatest impact on us so we can begin to identify them and articulate them for our cultural watershed and personal narrative.
  • Entry: 
    • We've come up with our whole class community agreements, now we will wrap up by talking about what you need from me.
      • Are there any things I need to do to earn your trust?
      • What are the things you need from me to be successful?
