About Your Instructor
Your instructor for this class will be Josh Porter.
Mr. Porter has 6 years of experience in the Highline School District teaching environmental education, leadership, and human history. This will be his second year in the classroom and first year at RAHS. Mr. Porter has a masters degree in earth and space science teaching and bachelors in history. He is looking forward to bringing his interdisciplinary skills and approach to the social studies classroom at RAHS.
Outside of school Mr. Porter enjoys getting outside in many ways, with skiing and backpacking being his favorite activities. He also likes to cook, harvest/forage local foods, and find furry critters to interact with.
Accountability, Caring, Consideration, Honesty/Transparency, and Growth are core values that Mr. Porter works to embody through his actions both in and out of the classroom. He maintains a focus on building a caring and supportive classroom community in partnership with his students so that all community members feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and rising to growth opportunities on their path to academic achievement in Social Studies and beyond.
